Overview

Shangrila Lake, also known as Lower Kachura Lake, is part of the Shangri-La resort, which is about a 20-minute drive from Skardu..It was first Resort Hotel in Skardu, Baltistan, which was opened in 1983, and shangrila was born. Because of its amazing beauty, tranquil mood, and breathtaking outlook, it was given the name "HEAVEN ON EARTH." Brig. (Retd) Muhammad Aslam Khan, the first leader of the Northern Scouts who liberated the Northern territories in 1948, established the Shangrila Resort Hotel. Shangrila takes its name from James Hilton's novel "LOST HORIZON." The author tells a fictional story set in the early 1920s about a plane crash landing near a riverbed. The survivors sought assistance from Buddhist monks at a nearby temple. They were led to a lovely lamasery brimming with fruit and flowers.


This beautiful resort is 3 km from Upper Kachura Lake and 18 km from Skardu, and is situated near Lower Kachura Lake with views of the Karakoram mountain range. Warm rooms and suites with sitting spaces, patios and/or lounges with flat-screen TVs, as well as cottages with balconies overlooking the lake, are available. Four restaurants (one inside an aeroplane and one on the lake), a 24-hour coffee lounge, and a snack bar are among the amenities. The neighboring mountains and lake may be seen from a garden. There are excursions available.

Showers with rainfall showerheads, bathrobes, and complimentary toiletries are available in the bathrooms. In addition, rooms come with free bottled water and coffee/tea makers. Daily housekeeping is included.


There are many facilities for children, every child is welcome. When using existing beds, one youngster under the age of 18 is charged PKR 2500 per night. Extra beds cost PKR 2500 a night for up to two older children or adults. A room can have a maximum of two additional beds. A room may accommodate a maximum of seven people. There are no cots available in the room.
